Couchbase announced that Couchbase Capella now fully manages and hosts a backend for mobile and IoT applications called Capella App Services.
The enhanced offering is designed to make it easier for developers to develop and deploy fast and resilient mobile applications that sync data between the cloud and devices, enabling applications to work whether they are online or offline.
Best suited for development teams, the fully managed service helps them save time, effort, and resources by streamlining configuration, synchronization, and ongoing management of backend services.
Daniele Angeli, CEO and Founder of MOLO17, said: “Mobile capabilities are an important part of our customers’ modern applications. We chose Couchbase specifically because it is the only database that can meet our distributed offline-first mobile needs—Apps, performance, and scale.
“With Capella App Services, we now get a fully managed cloud database along with managed mobile sync services. This innovation accelerates our development and helps us use our resources more efficiently to deliver our customers-bile applications to our cust”
Without built-in robust bi-directional synchronization, developers must design and build this complex capability to prevent mobile applications from suffering from incorrect or lost data, which can lead to frustrated application end users, slowed operations, and additional costs, the company says.
Reliability is a core feature of today’s modern applications. It must be powered by a database that can support backend app services such as synchronization to maintain data integrity and consistency, producing applications that can be relied upon for mission-critical use cases that require high availability, security, and speed.
Couchbase senior vice president of product management Scott Anderson said, “Organizations need a database that can meet today’s performance requirements; with Capella, we are uniquely positioned to significantly improve agility, deliver distributed and mobile experiences, and reduce total cost of ownership for customers.
“The main request we receive is to add our unparalleled mobile services to Capella. By unifying the entire Couchbase product offering under Capella, we deliver Couchbase as-a-service with a highly competitive cloud offering that makes it easier for developers to build the next great mobile and IoT applications.”
By integrating mobile capabilities into Capella, customers can better use Couchbase as-a-service. This means:
Build for developers: Capella is a one-stop-shop for developers who can use SQL, SDKs, and comprehensive platform and language support to build fast and resilient mobile apps that sync from the cloud to edge devices while offline first. Provide data access, peer-to-peer synchronization, and automatic data conflict resolution.
Management for architects: Deploy and manage the DBaaS and mobile sync services through a single interface. App Services connect to the edge and mobile devices, enabling data synchronization and making it easier for customers to manage their application backend from the cloud to the advantage.
More mobile use cases: Managing the sync gateway through Capella App Services dramatically expands the types of business-to-employee and business-to-consumer applications Capella can support, such as gaming, field service support, and customer experience.
In addition, Couchbase announced that it had expanded Capella to Google Cloud, adding multi-cloud capabilities to its powerful DBaaS. Developers gain maximum flexibility from all cloud service providers and can build and scale applications on Google’s cloud infrastructure.
